Our team can ease your tension and eliminate dental anxiety with oral conscious sedation that is simple and effective. All you have to do is take one pill about an hour before your appointment. By the time you arrive at our office, relaxation will already have taken over, progressing you to a deeper level of sedation as we prepare for your treatment. You remain conscious and can talk to the doctor as care is administered, and are fully monitored throughout. When your procedure is completed, someone will need to drive you home and in a short time, normal alertness will return. Your level of sedation is much less than what is required for general surgery.
Our conscious sedation treatment, promotes calm, relaxed feelings before, during and even after your procedure. Our fearful patients love this option, as do those who have difficulties with anesthesia. It's also great for someone who needs more extensive work and would like to have it done in one appointment instead of several.
Oral sedatives are generally safe with the most common side effects being sleepiness. Because of this, you should plan to have someone drive you to and from your appointment and you should also plan on taking it easy for the remainder of the day. This rest will also help your body during the healing and recovery process following your procedure.
Once comfortably sedated, we’ll utilize the newest and most effective pain relief methods during your procedure to offer you the most painless experience possible.
We are excited to have incorporated the use of The Wand™ into our practice. This high-tech, computerized anesthetic delivery system replaces the syringe, a 150-year-old technology. Its precise, controlled delivery means we can now deliver anesthetic to a patient more accurately, and they almost always say, "I didn't feel a thing!" It even helps reduce the extent and time frame of your numbness. If traditional needles are a scary thing for you, this can certainly help remove that source of anxiety!
The Wand is also ideal for anyone who wants to minimize their discomfort during their dental procedures. It utilizes a computer to measure the precise amount of pain relieving medicine needed, virtually eliminating the chance of receiving and ineffective or incorrect dosage. It also administers the anesthetic very slowly, thus eliminating the sting that is associated with most injected medicines.
Another option to easy tension for some patients, is nitrous oxide (laughing gas). This sedation is inhaled through a mask that allows you to breathe in the medication and induces a state of relaxation. Local anesthetic will be administered in conjunction with nitrous oxide to eliminate pain in most cases. The difference with approach is that once your treatment is complete, you're able to drive yourself home afterwards as the effects of nitrous oxide begin within minutes of inhaling the gas, but only last for a short time after it is no longer being inhaled. Because of this, it is an excellent option for coping with dental anxiety when you need to drive or manage other responsibilities after your appointment.
