The foundation of a lifetime of good dental health starts when your children are small and is based on positive experiences at the dentist. Dr. Crider, Dr. MacArthur, and the team are incredibly gentle, friendly, and welcoming. We make visits fun for kids, so they listen when we teach them good daily dental habits and they're excited to come back. New technologies make those visits faster and more comfortable, too.
Adults often have dental anxiety because of experiences in their childhood. It's our goal to eliminate those fears in every generation, right from the start! This positive outlook begins with our thorough approach. We make children feel welcome, as if they belong and are part of our family. We listen to them and explain to them everything that's going to happen, and then we teach them how to take care of their teeth to make every future dental visit smooth and easy. Parents are always telling us how eager their kids are to come see us, and you will, too!
We like to say that choosing a dentist is as important as choosing a physician. The mouth is the gateway to the entire body, so having healthy teeth and gums and making good dietary choices are vital factors in keeping your body healthy. Just as important is our holistic approach to dental care. Toxins and chemicals have a cumulative effect on our bodies, so it's important to start early in making safer choices. Our green dentistry philosophy means less exposure for your child. We never use amalgam fillings, keeping mercury and other metals out of your child's system. We also avoid the use of fluoride products and use oxygen-ozone therapy as an alternative treatment.
It all starts with teaching kids good habits early and continuing to encourage them during each of their biannual visits. Often, children fail to brush their teeth well, so we help both parents and children learn the right techniques to ensure they're taking care of their teeth and gums. Because little kids tend to eat frequently throughout the day, their teeth are exposed to acid for a longer period of time. This makes it more likely for cavities to develop, especially if plaque is allowed to build. Ensuring proper hygiene habits and encouraging good dietary choices along with an application of a protective varnish to mineralize teeth improves the health and longevity of our young patients' natural teeth.
Sealants are a proven preventative for tooth decay. They use a resin-like material that helps create a protective barrier that covers the deep grooves in the permanent molar teeth. Most tooth decay is able to grow quickly in these grooves where toothbrush bristles cannot reach. Sealants, which bond to tooth surfaces to protect them, are recommended for children when the first permanent molars appear. We also recommend them for adults who have teeth with deep grooves or light stains on the biting surfaces of their teeth.
For the application, which is very short and painless, a solution is applied to the chewing surface of a tooth to help facilitate a bond with the sealant. Next, the sealant is applied and hardened. The procedure is very simple and easy for children and adults alike.
Longevity of Sealants
The goal is to make the sealant last for several years and to make
the protection for teeth as durable as possible. When taken care of,
sealants (along with good oral hygiene) have been proven to reduce
cavities and tooth decay.
The sealant material we use, Helioseal, contains no Bisphenol A (BPA) or Fluoride. It is a holistic choice for protecting your teeth.
